Welcome to the Aurora Challenge Trail!
Here is a full list of all the challenge caches on the trail.
What is the Aurora Challenge Trail?
The ACT is a series of 75 challenge caches, as well as a “side alley” of mini jasmer challenges, an info kisok cache, and three bonus caches. They are located in Eagle River and Chugiak, Alaska, twin towns just outside of Anchorage.
What are the areas that the caches are hidden in?
The Mini Jasmers are located in Eagle River, mostly on street signs on the northwest corner of town.
The Main trail follows the bike path along the Glenn Highway from the North Eagle River Exit, past the South and North Birchwood Loop Exits, and on to the Peters Creek Exit. The train then turns and warps back along the Old Glenn Highway from Peters Creek back to Fred Meyer, which is at the North Eagle River Exit. This is about 13 miles round trip. There is one part of the trail on the Old Glenn that does not have caches, as the land the road passes over is Eklutna land and Geocaching has been prohibited.
Secondary trails include an offshoot on the north side of the highway at the Peters Creek Exit to Mirror Lake Middle School; on the south side of the highway at the same exit, going up Chapel and Greatland Drive towards the back of Peters Creek Park; and on Fish Hatchery Lane up towards the back of the Mac Center.
Sprinkled amongst the challenge caches are traditional caches that were already in place. They continue to be maintained by the cache owners and by the challenge trail volunteers when requested.
In summary, there are:
75 regular challenge caches
1 special “choose your own challenge”
3 Bonus Caches
11 Mini Jasmer Challenge Caches
*There are 7 matching Mini Jasmer Challenge caches in Anchorage proper; these just filled in the years that were missing from those pre-established challenges.
In Anchorage, there are also some additional challenge caches that predate the trail. You can see a complete list of Challenge Caches for Alaska here. All Challenge caches in Alaska as of January 2026 are in the Anchorage Municipality, with the exception of three– One in Juneau, one in Ketchikan, and one in Fairbanks.
